What Else to Know About Logging Out of WhatsApp
On the web, desktop app, and Facebook Portal, WhatsApp allows you to log out of your account, but not on the mobile apps. When you exit WhatsApp on your mobile device, the application enters sleep mode, which allows you to continue receiving messages and calls.

Backing Up Your WhatsApp Data
If you wish to back up your iPhone’s data, you must connect it to an iCloud account. Tap Settings > Chat Backup > Backup Now in WhatsApp iOS. If you decide to return to the app, you will be able to restore your chat history and media files if you take this step.
You must connect your Android account to a cloud service. Choose the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of WhatsApp for Android, followed by Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Backup. You will then have the option to restore your data when re-logging in.
